rpg sunday
after talking with adam about rpgs, i figured it was time to play around with some i have (ps2)..
1) shin megami tensei - devil summoner - raidou kizunoha
2) shin megami tensei - nocturne
3) valkyrie profile 2
4) final fantasy 12
the first is set in the past - 1920s - of japan. it's more of an investigative rpg/adventure. as it shares in the "megaten" series from atlus, it has elements that are present in shin megami tensei - noturne as well as the digital devil sagas for ps2. my first exposure to the "megaten" series was digital devil saga. they are quirky and not your average rpg, which #2 on the list above is more like. i'm digging #2 (nocturne) more than #1 (raidou) probably since it plays more like an rpg and not a detective game.
#3 being the sequel to the awesome 2d rpg for ps (just type valkyrie profile playstation on ebay.. *sigh*) which is now a 3d game but navigates much like the original valkyrie profile. the battle system is now a 3d variant of the combo system found in the original, which is pretty nicely done. at times having a side scrolling navigation with 3d backgrounds (2.5d) can get a bit restrictive, but the game is pretty and admittably i'm not that far into it.
#4 being my main focus, tho since i've lacked focus on rpgs for months, it's still incomplete. phipps began playing out of the blue which got me re-interested, rich i think stopped, rob stopped (mainly cause of a borked tv, plus mindy was playing zelda =))
so the plan? finish final fantasy 12 (while making minimal progress in #1 and #2.) #3 i'll keep on hold for now, and when finished with ffxii then continue with valkyrie profile. ultimately i want to finish #3 and then start digital devil saga #1 again, then onto #2. persona 3 is coming out in the usa in june, which is aiming to be an awesome freaking game.. just go watch some youtube posts for the japanese version.
